Alex Woodmason, a Third Dan in Tang Soo Do, is the Chief Instructor for the British Tang Soo Do Federation in Cornwall. He has been practicing the art of Tang Soo Do since 1992 and is also an experienced Primary School Teacher that specialises in physical education.
In 1998 Mr Woodmason took his First Dan (Dan No. 38315). From 1999 to 2002 he was teaching Tang Soo Do in Cornwall under the leadership of Master Dove and Master Parkinson. In September 2002 he took his second Dan. In October 2006 he progressed to third dan with Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation of Great Britain. Mr Woodmason considers it to be a great honour to receive this grade from Master Salter, who was awarded his Masters Grade by Kwan Jang Nim Hwang Kee.
While teaching Tang Soo Do, Mr Woodmason studied at the College of St Mark and St John, Plymouth, for a Bachelor in Primary Education Honors Degree (B.Ed Hons) with Physical Education as a main subject. On completing the degree in 2002 he taught in an inner city primary school in east London. In 2004 he then returned to Cornwall where he now teaches in a local primary school.
He also runs successful Tigers, Dragons and Adults classes for traditional Moo Duk Kwan Tang Soo Do.
In August 2007 Mr Woodmason had the rare opportunity to meet and train with Grand Master Ah Po, in Sacramento, California, USA. During this lesson Grand Master Ah Po taught the techniques for both internal and external breathing through the Yuk Ro and Chil Sung forms. This was a fantastic experience and opportunity to learn about energy from one of the most senior Grand Masters in Tang Soo Do, and who is famed for his demonstrations of using internal energy.
Mr Woodmason believes that Tang Soo Do provides an excellent opportunity for people to develop their physical and mental well-being. Many experienced Masters explain the importance of developing the external and internal side of the art - Mr Woodmason is also a firm believer of this philosophy and has been studying the Chinese art of cultivating energy through Chi Kung since 1999. This helps with the teaching and understanding of the higher forms within Moo Duk Kwan where qi or chi is developed.
